Integrating Technology in the Language Curriculum | Norman Kim-Senior, Lawrenceville School
The nature of foreign language instruction lends itself very well to the integration of technology. With an emphasis on grammar instruction, speaking fluently, writing clearly, and communicating in the target language, a variety of tools might be used to provide a more immersive experience for students. This workshop examines each facet of the instruction process and matches a number of appropriate tools for teachers to try. Emphasis will be on creating lesson plans that incorporate the use of technology tools with the goal of enhancing outcomes. Discussion and sharing between language teachers will be encouraged, and individuals or teams will work on projects that can be used in actual language classes. Some time will be devoted to exploring some of the tools that are just beginning to emerge, such as Virtual Reality platforms that can transport students to target countries and provide them with virtual tours that require them to speak in the target language in order to move about successfully. Like all TLI workshops, teachers will be asked about their goals at the start of the workshop, and the curriculum will be customized to meet the needs of attendees.
